Coronary Angiography, also known as a Coronary Angiogram, is a minimally invasive procedure that provides a clear, real-time view of the coronary arteries. It helps detect blockages or narrowing that could lead to heart attacks or other serious conditions.
Performed by Dr. PavanKumar P Rasalkar, a highly experienced interventional cardiologist with over 20,000+ angiograms and 5,000+ angioplasties, this procedure is done with unmatched precision and patient safety in mind.
A coronary angiogram is typically advised if you:
Experience chest pain, shortness of breath, or unexplained fatigue
Have positive or borderline stress test (TMT) results
Are at high risk of coronary artery disease due to diabetes, hypertension, smoking, or family history
Had a previous heart attack or symptoms suggestive of one
Need assessment before undergoing angioplasty or bypass surgery
Location, severity, and extent of artery blockages
Blood flow efficiency in the coronary vessels
Helps plan further treatment – angioplasty, stenting, or surgery
Identifies conditions such as coronary anomalies, artery spasms, or congenital defects
The procedure is done in a catheterization lab under sterile conditions.
A thin catheter is inserted into an artery in the wrist or groin and guided to the heart.
A contrast dye is injected, and X-ray images are taken to track blood flow in the arteries.
The whole process typically takes 15–30 minutes and is generally well tolerated.
Most patients can go home the same day or within 24 hours.
Extensive experience in both simple and complex coronary interventions
Skilled in radial access (via wrist), promoting faster recovery and reduced complications
Ability to perform angioplasty during the same sitting, if needed
Offers advanced imaging techniques like OCT and IVUS for greater accuracy
Compassionate, patient-first approach to explaining findings and next steps
Following the angiogram, Dr. Rasalkar provides:
A clear summary of your coronary health
Recommendations for angioplasty, medical therapy, or surgery if needed
Lifestyle and dietary guidance for long-term heart health
Ongoing follow-up to track recovery and prevent further complications
If you’ve been experiencing chest pain or are worried about your heart health, don’t delay. A Coronary Angiogram could be the key to early diagnosis and lifesaving intervention.
